Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic Black 3.6.9

The Super Antarctic 3.6.9 Black is a modern take on Nivada Grenchen's 1950s Antarctic 3-6-9: a 38 mm Swiss automatic watch with a matte black dial, Super-LumiNova and Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9. No artificial patina here. The dial stays clean and legible, true to the purposeful spirit of the original.

The Antarctic was first made to accompany explorers into the harshest places on Earth. This version continues a vintage Super Antarctic that a follower shared on Instagram, rebuilt with sapphire glass and a Swiss automatic movement.

The 316 stainless steel case is shiny and brushed, measures 38 mm across, 45 mm lug to lug and 12 mm thick, and takes 20 mm straps. A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating sits on top, and the caseback carries the gold medallion. Inside, the Swiss Soprod P024 automatic. With a screw-down crown, the watch is water resistant to 10 ATM, or 100 m, and built to resist magnetism.
